Highlights

The Heck-Jones® Offering

This year Woman's Missionary Union of North Carolina reinstituted the Heck-Jones® Offering to raise support for its missions and ministry endeavors. While February 11 -17 was designated the Week of Prayer and Heck-Jones® Offering promotion, WMU NC still needs your support. God continues to provide for WMU NC in remarkable ways, and we hope you will consider being a part of His provision.

Your church can promote the Heck-Jones® Offering at any time of the year. Please read more about the offering, what it supports and how you can get involved here. Offering resources are also available on that page.

Living the Call...

The ladies at Wingate Church began a prayer shawl ministry about three years ago. As each shawl is completed and brought to the group, the ladies lay hands on the shawl and pray for the recipient. The recipient might be someone who is grieving over the loss of a child or spouse or is suffering from an illness or another kind of grief or loss. When the shawl is delivered, it is wrapped around the recipient with the words that the shawl is to be a reminder that God cares and loves her and that the ladies of the prayer shawl ministry are also lifting her up in prayer. These women "live the call", showing Christ's love through prayer and action.

Nominate a group/individual who is "Living the Call" in your community to be spotlighted here. Read more stories of women who daily live the call here.

A Story of WMU's Influence toward Lifelong Missional Living

Beverly B. Butler, GAs, Children in Action, and Womans Missionary UnionAs a little girl I always looked forward to GAs. 'Miss' Ollie (Mrs. Ollie [Sam] Bullock, Hamilton, NC) was always ready for us with patient ears, a loving heart, open mind and a strong Christ-like attitude. She diligently taught us the Biblical mandate behind missions and thought it imperative that we learn the history of WMU and how we could be an active part of missions. She encouraged, disciplined, loved and gave of herself to each and every girl. We had coronations (recognition ceremonies) that were wonderful, but it was during these events that we learned to express ourselves and publicly share the meaning and application of God's Word and His plan for our lives. I had the privilege to work with 'Miss' Ollie in the public work force and she was an exemplifier of Christ in the work place. I still enjoy sharing with 'Miss' Ollie regarding missions and my life through WMU. We do not attend the same church now, but as I teach Children in Action and speak across the state of NC, I think of the unselfish mission lifestyle that 'Miss' Ollie exhibited and still lives. - Beverly B. Butler
